My poor little bear

So the plan for today was to go to the Blank Park Zoo for a Zoo Tots class on penguins and then go have lunch with Daddy. We were all set to go, just getting our shoes on, and the whole day changed....

My little Ella tripped and fell right into the corner of the wall causing a fairly deep and gaping hole in her forehead! My poor baby! So I scooped her up, grabbed a towel from the kitchen to hold on her forehead, sent Aidan up to get a binky for her and prayed that it was not going to be too bad when I took the towel back off her head. It did not bleed or swell much at all thankfully and she calmed down as soon as Aidan gave her the binky. Tried to call Aaron at work but wasn't in his office, so called First Nurse and asked whether I should take her to emergency room or doctor's office (I didn't know! It was my first trauma with my own child). They said to call the doctor who told us to come right in. Again, thankfully there was not much blood or swelling, and we had already been walking out the door anyway, so I decided to just pack up the kids and head to Ames where our pediatrician's office is, calling Aaron again while we were on the road.

Ella was such an awesome patient. She just let them mess with her head and do whatever they needed to do. The nurse said it usually takes three people to hold the kids down until they wear themselves out and fall asleep. Not my Ella, she was a trooper. And Aidan was a super big brother and great helper for me today. I felt so bad and thought he was going to be so upset that he didn't get to go to the zoo today. I mean he asked about it and thought we could just go to his zoo class after we went to the doctor, but was okay when I said we couldn't today. I am so thankful that he was so awesome today. (I did call and got him into the Saturday zoo class so he will get to enjoy his "Penguins on Parade" class).

So our little bear ended up not needing stitches since it was a straight, clean slice so the doctor used the glue to squeeze the skin back together. They said it would come off in about a week and hopefully will have helped it at least start to heal nicely back together. She hasn't tried to mess with it at all, but it is driving me nuts that a couple pieces of hair are stuck in the glue, but I don't want to mess with it so I am trying to leave it alone and remember that the glue will go away in just a few days. The important thing is she is fine...

... and still my smiley little bear!

I'm glad she did so well. I'm pretty sure Adeline would not have been so cooperative. She doesn't even like the regular doctor visits. I'm glad Ella is doing fine!

What a stud! I am sure it was mortifying to see that type of wound on such a sweet little thing ... but I am glad that it turned out so well. I think I would have reacted just like you!

Man! I am glad that she is ok. Stitches are no fun so I am glad that she just had to have the glue :) even if some of her hair got stuck! Give her a hug and kiss from me!
