Aidan got a nice telescope from Grandma and Grandpa Van Sickel for Christmas. He was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited about this! He keeps asking us to get it out, so we recently did. There is still some learning for mommy and daddy to do to use it the best. But the kids were excited just to look through it at the house number and outdoor light on the house a street away. Aaron would get the telescope set to the right position to see it, and then the kids would climb up to look and put their hand down on it and tilt the telescope out of position.
We have The Des Moines Astronomical Society and Aaron actually has a co-worker I believe that is a part of it. They have public nights in the spring, summer, and fall where you can go and listen to a lecture and look through their telescope or bring your own. I think we are planning on trying out the public nights and getting some expert help. :)
But for now - tons of fun at home!
